City staff told council that ODOT's completed speed analysis recommended a reduction from 55 mph to 50 mph on Butteville, but staff and council members urged a more substantial reduction. The city manager said he would submit additional crash-data and context and asked council to authorize a letter signed by the mayor, police chief and city manager asking ODOT to reconsider and lower the speed to 35 mph on the corridor.
Council moved and seconded the letter-authorizing motion. Councilors noted a recent fatality on the segment and multiple crashes in the area as part of their justification. The council approved the motion, and staff will deliver the supplemental information to ODOT for reconsideration.
