City hears update on East County Fire Task Force; staff flags station gaps and phased options

Staff recommended forming a subgroup to define the quantitative and qualitative service needs (for example, whether med units or full engine companies are appropriate) so proposals can be compared on an apples-to-apples basis. The task force aims to make a recommendation by November to inform council decisions and potential ballot timing.
Council and staff discussed outreach strategies, including short social media segments and community events, and emphasized that the work can be phased so implementation and public messaging are clearer. The council did not take formal action; staff will continue subgroup work and public engagement.
