Students urge 'Plant Based Treaty' endorsement; residents call for AI‑art limits in city materials

Chinmayi Nayak, a John Burroughs High School student, described a student‑led Food for Future campaign that piloted plant‑based meals at one high school and urged the council to endorse the Plant Based Treaty and expand plant‑based options in city events and school cafeterias. "Endorsing Plant Based Treaty will not only provide plant based options for the community, they will also educate people," Chinmayi said.
Separately, Cameron Tennyson urged the council to consider banning city employees from using AI‑generated art in public‑facing city media, saying the city should "hire an artist" and protect local creative labor. "If we have something that we need, art for, hire an artist," Tennyson said, noting concerns about training data and attribution.
Councilmembers responded by asking staff for memos: Vice Mayor Mullins flagged an existing request for an SB 53 compliance memo regarding AI use by city departments; council indicated willingness to consider first‑step reports on both the Plant Based Treaty endorsement and a potential AI art policy.
