Council notes regional coordination on Downtown Metrolink mobility‑hub planning

City transportation staff presented an overview of partnerships and projects meant to improve access and passenger amenities at the Downtown Burbank Metrolink Station and to position the site as a multimodal mobility hub.
Karen Pan, transportation services manager, said the city is working with SCAG, Metro, SCORE and local councils of governments on mobility‑hub concepts, wayfinding improvements and grant opportunities. "Given the number of agencies operating at or serving the Downtown Burbank Metrolink Station, inter‑agency coordination among key stakeholders is essential to ensure efficient operations, enhance passenger experience, and advance future transportation and infrastructure improvements," Pan told council.
Staff described near‑term efforts including wayfinding signage, a capital improvement project to renovate 30‑year‑old station facilities, and outreach tied to the Downtown TOD specific plan. Councilmembers discussed branding the station as a regional hub and creating a single public landing page to consolidate information about bus and rail connections, shuttles and route maps ahead of major events such as the 2028 Olympics.
Staff said mobility‑hub funding applications are under way and that the next round of TOD plan engagement will take place in late August and September. Council noted the importance of clearer public communications about transit connections and recommended staff consider a coordinated "hub" landing page or branding to help residents and visitors access transit information.
