Trustees approve five-year Axon body‑camera contract for police

The Woodstock Village Trustees approved a five-year contract with Axon on April 14 to replace department body and cruiser cameras and move footage storage to the cloud. Interim Police Chief Chris O'Keefe described the package, which he said would include docking stations, cloud retention and replacement service for damaged units; he told trustees the contract total is $88,201.96 over five years.
"The contract is for $88,201.96. It's over the course of 5 years," Chief Chris O'Keefe said, adding that the Dorothy Burn Foundation has pledged a $15,000 gift toward the purchase and that staff has applied for a separate $50,000 small rural & tribal police grant. Village staff also noted the item was budgeted and that Axon’s cloud system will reduce administrative time needed to respond to records requests and court discovery.
Trustees discussed vendor options, staffing assignments for cameras and privacy tools the product offers, such as face‑blurring for sensitive footage. A motion to approve the Axon contract carried after discussion; staff will notify the vendor and continue to seek grant funding to reduce the village share. The board was told the town would revisit renewal terms at the five‑year mark and that cloud storage is included in the vendor contract for the contract term.
