Developer says it can alter plan to preserve fields; council urges continued negotiation

Representatives of ICON Construction told the West Linn City Council on Feb. 25 that the developer is willing to explore alternatives to its original plan for Oppenlander that could preserve more green space or playing fields.
Harlan Burrow of ICON said the developer is prepared to work with the city and community on compromises: "We're willing to look at additional alternatives to the plan that we presented… there may be a way to do a senior field either just a senior field or a senior field and a youth field…" He noted that expanding preserved area would reduce the number of buildable lots and that those trade‑offs would change the financial return for the project.
Council members thanked ICON for presenting a creative solution but emphasized that the city does not currently own the property and encouraged residents to press the school board to extend its deadline and consider community priorities. Councilor Groener noted that until the school board accepts a developer’s offer the situation could still be open to negotiation.
