Council hears priorities update: transportation funding, recreation center talks with YMCA

"If we could get them involved and interested in our project, I think that would be a big win for us and probably represent dramatic cut of costs for us," a staff presenter said, describing the Y’s track record and the potential for shared operations.
Staff also updated the council on Vision 43 and waterfront planning, noting zoning code work and a draft 0.25 master plan for Highway 43; open houses and hearings are tentatively planned for late summer and fall. On water infrastructure, staff said Abernathy pipeline drawdowns are beginning and the city has projects on legislative lists for funding consideration.
Council asked for follow‑up legislative updates and staff said Doug Riggs (legislative contact) would be rescheduled or provide a written report after connection issues prevented a live Salem update. Staff also outlined a broader list of unmet capital and staffing needs that will inform the budget process.
