A parks representative told the council the city is required to spend $2 per capita on urban forestry standards tied to Tree City USA recognition and that, with the free street‑tree replacement program last year, the city spent "over $400,000 on supporting trees in the community." Staff described upcoming public events including an Earth Day workday on April 19 in Walnut Park and neighborhood tree talks scheduled during the month.
Staff also previewed municipal tree code updates and said tree canopy management will be discussed further during the budget process. The parks team encouraged residents to participate in volunteer work parties and take advantage of free saplings being distributed at City Hall.
