Chelsea community holds vigil and fundraiser for Venezuela earthquake victims

A Chelsea community event marked the one-month anniversary of two earthquakes in Venezuela with speeches from community organizers, relief-group representatives and a city official, who urged donations to support victims and rebuilding efforts. The Moderator opened the gathering with a call to prayer and said attendees were contributing "cada dólar, cada 5 centavos" to help those affected.
Organizers described a three-phase relief effort that included immediate fundraising, a logistics phase that moved roughly 42,000 pounds of supplies through Miami, and a third-phase project to help children who lost limbs. Ciro Valiente, representing the Asociación de Venezolanos de Massachusetts, thanked partner organizations including Casa Venezuela and La Colaborativa. The Moderator asked attendees to give through the Boston Foundation, Casa Venezuela or the Asociación de Venezolanos de Massachusetts.
"No son números, tienen nombres, tienen familias," Cristina, introduced as a director in the governor's office, said while thanking volunteers and organizers for the mural and solidarity. The event closed with a minute of silence and renewed calls to donate locally and through listed partner organizations.
