Santa Rosa PD reports increased recruitment and ongoing academies

Chief Krieg updated the council that the police department currently has 14 officers in training: four who will graduate at the end of August and ten enrolled in an academy that started in July and will graduate in December. "We actually have 14 officers in training right now," Krieg said, adding that one of the four is a lateral officer and additional lateral applicants are in process.
Krieg said the department is also actively recruiting civilian positions (evidence technicians, dispatchers, police technicians and a senior admin assistant) and plans to ramp up hiring for a January 2027 academy with a target class size to send about 10 officers to the state-run academy. The chief described the full field training and internal programs that follow the state academy to prepare officers for solo patrol assignments.
