Santa Rosa PD, police foundation plan no-questions-asked gun buyback Oct. 3

Chief John Krieg told council members the Santa Rosa Police Foundation will host a second annual, no-questions-asked gun buyback on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Veterans Memorial Building parking lot. Krieg said no city funds will be used and that the foundation will pay cash directly with no ID required. "So you don't need an ID. You don't need anything," Krieg said, describing the drive-through process where participants remain in their cars and officers retrieve unloaded firearms from trunks.
Krieg reviewed results from the prior event in October 2022, when the department collected 436 firearms, including six ghost guns and several assault-style weapons. He said recovered stolen firearms were returned to rightful owners when identified and that all other firearms are destroyed. "All other firearms are destroyed," Krieg said, describing a process in which seized guns are transported to an East Bay facility and melted down.
