Garden plots expand; new 1,500 sq ft pollinator garden dedicated to late resident

The Chair reported that the community garden expanded from 12 to 20 plots after a grant from the East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District and that Outgrowing Hunger remains contracted to manage gardeners and programming. “We had 12 plots originally. We add an additional 8...so there's 20 plots all actively reserved in the growing phase,” the Chair said.
The Chair also described a new pollinator garden of about 1,500 square feet with more than 700 mostly native plants and an educational bench planned as a focal art piece. He said the council dedicated the garden to his late wife, Kirsten, and that the butterfly bench (about 5 feet tall and 7 feet across) should arrive in a few weeks. Staff and community partners — including the Rockwood Tool Library and Reynolds transitions program — will support the seed library and volunteer planting efforts.
