Director of Finance reported the city uses an engineering cost index rather than the consumer price index to track construction inputs across the Seattle–Portland–Idaho region. "The current update is a 2.1 increase in our current fees," the director explained, and staff said a single‑family residence’s SDC — described in the packet as about $3,300 — would rise by roughly $70 for new construction. Councilors asked clarifying questions about whether the change applies to remodels that add capacity; staff confirmed it would apply when the work increases system capacity or meter size.
Councilors framed the change as modest and routine maintenance of the rate structure intended to let new development pay a proportionate share of system expansion costs. The motion to adopt the SDC adjustment was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
What happens next: The fee schedule amendment will take effect July 10, 2026; staff will post updated tables and continue to include SDC changes in future annual updates.
