City awarded $80,000 CDBG to add ADA crossing and restore ballfield; HUD review could delay work

City staff said a county $80,000 CDBG award will fund an ADA crossing linking an existing path to new restrooms and restoration of the ballfield in the coming fiscal year, but HUD environmental review remains pending and could delay implementation.
Becky, a parks staff member, told commissioners the city received an $80,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) award from the county to build an ADA crossing to connect the recently installed ADA pathway to new restrooms and to restore the ballfield surface. “We did get the, $80,000 grant award, from the county,” Becky said, adding the ballfield work will remove a few inches of material and install appropriate infield soil.
Becky cautioned that while the county awarded the funds, the county is awaiting final confirmation from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development because HUD conducts periodic environmental assessment reviews. “They have not received the final confirmation from HUD...which might delay things a little bit, but we still should be able to get these both done by the end of the fiscal year,” Becky said. Staff indicated they will proceed with design and scheduling while awaiting the HUD clearance and expect to start construction as soon as approvals are in place.
