Staff emphasized the changes are prevention-focused and include an oral and written notification script for parents and closer monitoring by the office of the independent monitor.
Trustees asked for clarification about who receives mandatory training; staff said the training will begin with CSOs and SROs next week and be rolled out to substitutes, aides, bus drivers and any staff who may be expected to intervene. Trustee Jackson confirmed the district's CPI/NASRO cycles (every two years for some modules) and trustees requested language addressing staff who decline to intervene. Counsel and staff cited Education Code guidance that gives certificated and classified staff reasonable intervention responsibilities where necessary.
