The Osage City Council on April 28 approved Resolution No. 1152 to set a public hearing for June 23, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. to consider condemning the structure at 501 Market Street. City Manager Katie Hodge proposed the condemnation and Code Administrator Jim Welch summarized deficiencies of the property for the council.
Councilmember Kathy Ayers moved and Councilmember Jeff Tice seconded the resolution to schedule the hearing. The motion was declared carried 7-0, with Councilmember Cathryn Houghton recorded as abstaining because of a conflict of interest. The resolution identifies the property as Wetheralls 1st Addition, Lots 33,35, BLK 17 Less RR ROW, commonly known as 501 Market Street, Osage City. As with the other condemnation item, the council's approval only sets the hearing and notice requirements; any order to repair or demolish would follow the June 23 hearing and applicable statutory procedures.
The abstention was stated on the public record; the council did not vote to disqualify the member or take further action during this meeting.
