Fire department reports hurricane aid deployments, donation sites and EMS call numbers

Fire Chief Jeremy Haddix told the council that two fire personnel were sent south to assist with efforts related to Hurricane Helene and that donations for hurricane victims are being accepted at Vincent Memorial and Freedom Baptist Churches; Linda Griffith is also collecting donations for a limited time at the Nutter Fort Post Office. Chief Haddix said tickets for the department’s Ultimate Giveaway remain on sale and highlighted the successful Robert C. Byrd High School homecoming parade on Oct. 2.
The EMS written report provided to the council showed 32 emergency calls to date, 37 basic life support (BLS) transports and 3 advanced life support (ALS) transports as of the morning of the meeting. Council did not take formal action on department fundraising or deployment reports during the meeting.
