Conservation director Katie Hammond told the board the Muscatine Triathlon at Deep Lakes Park will require setup closures on Friday and limited access on Saturday while organizers establish transition areas and parking. Hammond said the main park beach and fishing areas will be unavailable during setup, and that access for spectators and participants on Saturday will be routed across 57th Street through Fruitland; volunteers and participants were asked to respect closures.
Hammond added that 41st Street will be closed at about 6:30 a.m. for the 5K race segment and that uniformed officers will staff major intersections. Parking for the triathlon will be staged at CHS off 57th with shuttles to the park. Supervisors said they expect an increase in participant interest, and staff will continue social-media outreach to inform the public of closures and access routes.
