A representative of the Center for Prevention of Abuse (S4) presented benchmark totals showing the casework and outcomes produced by six ombudsmen operating in Peoria County facilities. The presenter said staffing shortages earlier in the reporting period reduced activity in some measures but that two newly certified ombudsmen have already begun and closed cases.
The presenter recounted several client success stories to illustrate the work: an ombudsman helped a resident obtain Social Security and SSI benefits after earlier hurdles; an ombudsman worked with staff to secure a new mobility scooter for a veteran; and staff intervened to obtain prescribed nutritional shakes for a resident who had been losing weight. The speaker emphasized that many clients in long-term care have limited family support and that the ombudsmen fill a critical advocacy role funded by the county agreement.
Committee members thanked the group for the report and asked no substantive follow-up questions during the presentation. The report was informational and no committee action followed at this time.
