County shows building energy dashboard; sustainability staff outlines solar plans

A Peoria County sustainability staff member (S5) demonstrated a new energy dashboard and story map the county is using to track building-level electricity, gas and water use and to compare generation against consumption. "In 2020, kilowatt hours were 1,700,000 for the jail," the staff member said, noting the jail is the county's largest energy user and that the dashboard allows officials to attribute changes to specific projects.
The presenter also described two off-site solar subscription projects (the first reflected on January bills and a second that went online in June) and said staff expect to receive generation data in early August. The HHS roof, the presenter said, is ready for on-site solar, and procuring quotes for rooftop arrays is part of the 2026 work plan. Members asked for Gift Avenue utility data to be added to the dashboard so ongoing carrying costs for underused facilities are clearer to the committee.
