At a public remembrance, several people credited Kenneth J. Daida with central roles in the 1973 incorporation of Rancho Palos Verdes and with shaping the city’s long-term planning philosophy.
A longtime planning staff member recalled being introduced to Daida during the Marymount expansion project and said Daida "introduced me to the goals report," which the staffer described as the foundation of the city's general plan. Speakers said Daida's emphasis on fiscal responsibility, open space and low‑density development guided policy choices for decades.
Multiple remarks at the event recounted the grassroots campaign to incorporate the peninsula, the need for county supervisor votes to place incorporation on the ballot and Daida's coalition-building. One speaker noted the effort was "a total community peninsula wide effort."
