Following questions from reporters, the mayor said the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) will conduct a thorough review of the recent officer‑involved shooting and that city officials believe the investigative process is working. "I think the KBI always does a tremendous job. They take a good hard thorough look at this," the mayor said.
City manager confirmed the city recently revised its policy on officer‑involved shootings to allow direct family review of raw footage and said staff met with the family to provide that opportunity and grief support. "We let them review the raw footage, because we wanted them to see exactly what transpired," the city manager said, calling the meeting difficult but important. Officials said they intend to release bodycam footage to the public once the investigation is complete consistent with city policy.
