The mayor said he selected economic development and budget staff — Leah Bowling and Josh McInerney — to participate alongside him and that the city will focus its program work on infrastructure, a priority repeatedly raised in the city's budget survey. He emphasized the city is not paying for his participation: "The program and the initiative pay for this. And if they don't cover it, then I cover it," the mayor said, adding that no taxpayer funds are being used. He said the goal is to bring back practical ideas and partnerships Topeka can apply to local infrastructure and service challenges.
