District seeks board preapproval of $140,000 student mental-health provider contracts

The district asked the board to add provider preapproval for a student mental-health and behavior services grant to the Aug. 4 consent agenda.
Dr. Christina Lowe explained that as part of the FY27 state budget Barrow County will receive $140,000 to provide direct mental- and behavioral-health services to students in grades 6–12. She said the district issued an RFP on May 18, received 40 proposals and evaluated agencies on qualifications, capacity and cost-effectiveness. "Based on the evaluation process, the 3 highest rated providers were RGW Institute, Daybreak Health, and Counseling Hearts," she told the board.
Lowe requested board preapproval so staff can enter into agreements with those agencies; she said the total amount of all contracts combined will not exceed $140,000 and that last year similar funding supported three providers and about 120 students. The item was placed on the consent agenda for the Aug. 4 board meeting for formal approval.
