Dr. Al Darby presented a narrowly scoped revision to the district's student code of conduct to ensure compliance with recent Georgia Department of Education guidance on the bell-to-bell cell phone prohibition.
"These revisions do not change the intent of the policy previously reviewed by the school governance teams and approved by the board," Darby said, explaining the change primarily clarifies terminology (for example, the state uses the term "personal electronic devices") and the coding needed for state reporting for K–8 and 9–12.
Darby said the amendments are intended to keep the district's reporting aligned with the state's definitions and do not alter previously approved disciplinary intent. The proposed revisions will be available for public review and are scheduled for formal action at the Aug. 4 board meeting.
