AP pass rates rise as students take more exams, district reports

Dr. Beth Mitcham told the board there were 1,061 exams taken by 630 students and that the district raised its pass rate in 15 of 20 courses offered in both years. "So now here is the flattering part, is our pass rate has gone up significantly for all of our courses that we're giving exams in," she said, praising teachers and schools for focused preparation.
Mitcham broke out exam counts by subject and noted that while the number of unique students taking AP exams dipped slightly, the number of exams went up, indicating more students took multiple exams. She also noted examples such as a student who earned a 5 on music theory and described the portfolio nature of some AP courses.
Board members and administrators celebrated the results and highlighted the role of teacher training and course availability in raising pass rates. No action was required; the report was informational and intended to show academic trends heading into the new school year.
