Board hears workshop recommendation to sell municipal liquor establishment; suggests temporary renewal of operating agreement

Participants at a Feb. 3 public workshop recommended "by general consensus" that the Town sell its municipal liquor establishment within the next one to two years because it is not returning sufficient value for the municipality.
Jamie Dolen, President, reported the workshop outcome and recommended that the Town first consider renewing the current Operating Agreement with Scott Johanson/Scotty’s named as manager. Dolen said state law allows one renewal and that keeping the establishment open until it is sold is preferable to an immediate sale. Renewal terms will be presented for a vote at the March meeting; the City Attorney has prepared sale options for the board to consider.
The board did not vote on a sale or on a renewal at the Feb. 10 meeting; members discussed next steps and the process that would be used if the board chooses to pursue a sale.
