Board honors Wythe County high school state track champions

The Wythe County Board of Supervisors opened its July 28 meeting by honoring local student-athletes for state championship performances. Resolutions were read and adopted recognizing Skyler McBride (George Wythe High School) for winning the boys long jump with a personal record of 22 feet, 2.5 inches; Emma Faulkner (George Wythe High School) for multiple distance titles (1,000m and 3,200m) and a relay runner-up; and the Rural Retreat High School boys 4x100 relay team for winning the state title with a time of 43.09 seconds.
Resolutions were presented by a board member and approved by motion and voice or roll-call votes; the board asked students and families to remain for presentations and encouraged the community to celebrate student-athletes' achievements.
"Congratulations," the board said after each resolution was adopted, and copies of the resolutions will be incorporated into the official minutes and presented to each honoree.
