Council approves extension with Republic Services; ordinance certifies residential solid-waste rate for 2027

The council authorized a second amendment to the residential waste and recycling contract with Republic Services covering an additional three-year option period from Jan. 1, 2027, through Dec. 31, 2029. City manager Hamilton said Republic offered extension rates that would cost households less over the extension than the alternative: "Year 1, we'll be paying $26 a household instead of $28.73 ... Year 2, $27.30 instead of $30.17 ... final year $28.67 instead of $31.68," he said.
Council also moved an ordinance (2026-21) to certify the cost to the Erie County auditor for placement on the 2027 tax duplicate; Finance staff (Phillips) explained that recent adjustments and fund balances allowed the city to reduce the street-light millage from 0.65 to 0.45 mills, resulting in an estimated household savings (example cited: a $200,000 house would pay roughly $14 less per year). Hamilton and Phillips clarified the fuel rider for trash service is billed separately and that service terms otherwise remain unchanged.
