High school senior credited with Huron 'Hometown Heroes' veterans flag project

Grant Bauer, a high school senior introduced at the July 28 Huron City Council meeting, outlined how he organized the "Hometown Heroes" project that placed veterans’ banners along Main Street. "We now have 42 veterans or current service members up from Main Street all the way down to the gas station," Bauer said, noting he worked with the mayor’s office, Lions Club and other local partners to bring funding and partners to the table.
Council members and staff praised Bauer’s leadership and said the Lions Club has taken over long-term stewardship. Mayor (speaker 1) and multiple council members publicly thanked Bauer for leading the project as a teenager and encouraged the community to attend future events noting the flags add a “nice touch” to the highway corridor. The council recorded the presentation without formal action; stewardship of the project was acknowledged as transferred to the Lions Club for ongoing maintenance.
