Board approves townwide lot capture to help Assessors update subdivision charts

The Washington Planning Board voted July 23 to capture lot data for the entire town rather than breaking records out by subdivision, a move board members said will help the Assessors identify developed versus undeveloped lots. Piatt proposed the change and "made a motion to capture the entire town instead of breaking out the subdivisions," which Caffrey seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Board members described technical limits in the Assessor’s software that prevent the Assessors from reliably identifying which lots belong to subdivisions. Caffrey suggested building a townwide lots database and Peel asked whether counts should focus on lots with homes rather than 'built lots.' The board assigned Peel to work with the Assessors to collect the required data and Schwartz to assist by supplying chapter documents and inputs as available.
The decision aims to produce a consistent dataset to update Master Plan charts and to streamline mapping work that the board said would otherwise take substantial staff time.
