The Washington Planning Board voted on July 23, 2026 to take over completion of the town Master Plan and dissolve the existing Master Plan committee after members described delays and incomplete charts in the Land Use and Zoning chapter. Piatt opened the working meeting and moved that "the Planning Board will work to bring the Master Plan to completion," a motion seconded by Caffrey and approved unanimously.
The board said the Master Plan update stalled after several committee members left and that key charts—particularly the subdivisions chart—remain outdated. Piatt said the committee chair had become frustrated with the delay and had circulated an incomplete draft; board members agreed the Planning Board itself should now carry the work forward. Schwartz noted the Planning Board retains authority to determine whether the document is complete. Peel was named Master Editor and will lead formatting and consolidation of chapter drafts; Piatt said he will obtain the Word document from Stone and Schwartz will bring remaining input, including material from Kluk.
The decision shifts responsibility for data collection and final edits to the board. Next steps include pulling together chapter documents, updating charts with assessor data, and scheduling working meetings to complete the Land Use and Zoning chapter.
