Laura Meese, director of the Grimes Health Resource Center, told commissioners the senior meals program serves roughly 35 meals a day — “that gives us our fluctuation because we serve between 5,500 to 7,000 a month,” she said — and outlined requested FY26 lines: $21,000 for frozen meals, $4,600 for raw food, $4,000 for fuel and modest operating and travel allocations.
Commissioners queried operating and freight lines after Meese and auditors reviewed historical spending. The court agreed to leave a $3,000 freight placeholder in the frozen meals account given the risk that freight invoices could resume, and the judge asked Meese to return if fuel costs force a mid-year line-item transfer. Meese also highlighted a practical benefit of the meal deliveries: drivers perform welfare checks and have in some cases identified at-risk residents in need of emergency services.
