Emergency management coordinator seeks reimbursements, radio shelter replacement and software funding

Dion Bumpus, Grimes County Emergency Management Coordinator and homeland security lead, briefed the court on recent reimbursement awards and ongoing communications capital needs. Bumpus said the county was awarded $13,170.18 for remediation of contaminated drums ("orphan barrels") and has an additional claim of $25,172.72 pending for drilling‑mud cleanup. "That request is $25,172 and 72¢ and hopefully we'll get that back," she said.
Bumpus also described plans to replace a deteriorating radio shelter and to move radio equipment into a new containerized shelter. She estimated the equipment being moved is worth approximately $800,000 and requested an increase to the repairs/maintenance and machinery lines to cover wiring and moving costs. Commissioners directed staff to create a professional services line ($2,200 estimated) for code adoption work and to move $4,000 for fire marshal software to IT. Auditors will re‑check fiscal year 2025 balances to determine whether some costs can be charged to year‑end funds.
