Council wants comprehensive plan referenced in fiscal policies and revives community results team

During the July 28 study session, council members debated whether the long‑range financial policy should reference the city’s Community Strategic Plan or the comprehensive plan/Redmond 2050 executive summary. Several members said the community strategic plan is useful and digestible for the public but risks being subsumed by larger documents; staff and council agreed to replace the reference with the comprehensive plan while exploring ways to highlight a short, accessible set of priorities drawn from Redmond 2050.
Council also discussed the Community Results Team—an engagement body used in prior budget cycles—and several members recommended reconstituting it with more deliberate recruitment to ensure diverse participation. Councilmember Kritzer proposed a budget offer to fund targeted outreach and training for new participants so the team can provide meaningful input during the non‑budget year; staff said they would work with the council to scope a possible budget ask and bring options forward.
Council reached general agreement to keep engagement work on the 2027 roadmap and to return with recommendations for how the team would feed into the budget development timeline.
