Kennewick City convened a special council meeting at 5:30 p.m. on July 28, 2026. The chair noted that the mayor and Council Member Anderson were absent and that Council Member Beecham had not yet arrived; the absences were reported as having been notified in advance.
The meeting’s sole agenda item was a staff briefing and site demonstration of the city’s drone first-responder program. Council and staff were organized into two groups for a 10-minute visit at each drone location across the street; participants mentioned by staff included the city manager, deputy city manager, Assistant Chief Kiel, Commander Davis and Commander Kelly. Following the site visits, staff planned to reconvene in the training room to show success videos, with an expected return time no later than 6:20 p.m.
The chair closed the special session at 6:25 p.m. and announced the next meeting would start five minutes later. There was no formal vote or ordinance taken during this informational session.
