The council voted unanimously to approve Resolution 2024-03 authorizing the town to apply for a 2024 Department of Homeland Security Supplemental Solicitation grant for license-plate reader (LPR) cameras and software. Police Chief Ron Godwin told the council he met with a vendor and, although the quote was higher than expected, the grant would cover the full cost with no required local match.
Chief Godwin said the LPRs would be "beneficial for the heavy traffic on Route 20," and the request covers six cameras with a 10-year licensing agreement. The council approved the resolution on a motion by Natalie Haddix with a second by Rick Lafferty; the minutes record a unanimous vote.
