Chief Ron Godwin reported department equipment needs during the Aug. 27 meeting, saying the department needs replacement tasers and is evaluating license-plate-capture camera systems. Godwin described video he had reviewed and said he hopes to acquire four cameras to place at the north and south ends of Route 20 and the east and west ends of Route 98; he said he is meeting Sept. 5 to discuss body-worn cameras and is pursuing state funding sources to cover these purchases.
Councilors did not vote on any police capital purchase during the meeting. Chief Godwin said he had identified potential funding sources and will report back as plans firm up. The department asked for council support in pursuing grants or state funds to avoid using general town revenues.
