Board sets Sept. 22 referendum date over Sept. 15 alternative; registrar warns of extra workload

The Town of Windham Board of Finance voted to set the next referendum for Sept. 22, 2026 after the Board of Education requested either Sept. 15 or Sept. 22. Board members said the Sept. 22 date would give the Board of Education more time to alert voters under new legislation; a motion to set the date was made and seconded and the motion passed.
Registrar Ms. Desaulniers, who spoke during both the initial and final public comment periods, voiced concern about the later date, saying it would "create more work for them." The minutes record her request that emails be sent to a central registrar address to aid administration.
Board member Peter Hughs later clarified comments he made about the referendum date during the final board comments. The board did not record any changes to the selected date at adjournment.
