Architect presents Historic District paint palette; commissioners push for flexibility

Mr. Wallenhorst presented a paint‑color recommendations exhibit with manufacturer references intended to guide historically appropriate façade colors in the Historic District. The exhibit lists primary and trim colors by architectural style (Federal/Greek Revival, Victorian/Italianate, Historic Commercial) and recommends that applicants provide manufacturer color names, numbers and physical samples for design-review applications.
Commissioner Denise Ready recommended defining façade color terms and keeping the palette simple to ease applicants. Councilperson Carol Campbell said she favored the architect's recommendations but urged not to be overly reliant on past documentation; Councilperson Bobbie Beshara said she could not imagine many homeowners choosing bright façade colors in the district. Mr. Wallenhorst said he would cross‑reference examples and ensure colors (including yellow) are properly labeled in the exhibit.
