Residents urge Greene County to tighten zoning after Vulcan Materials rezoning pulled

At a public hearing on June 15, Crystal Jessee and Connie Collins told the Greene County Legislative Body they oppose a rezoning application from Vulcan Materials and asked commissioners to amend zoning regulations to prohibit rock quarries or borrow pits from being converted into data centers or Bitcoin-mining operations. Jessee said the company pulled its rezoning request from the Greene County Planning Commission agenda on June 9 following opposition from property owners in the Greystone and Camp Creek communities.
Jessee also told commissioners in a follow-up letter to County Attorney Roger Woolsey that many counties currently allow borrow pits under existing zoning provisions; she urged Greene County to be proactive in closing what she described as a regulatory gap. The commission did not take formal action on the request during the meeting; commissioners heard the public comments during the hearing portion of the agenda.
