Woodburn closes out CARES Act CDBG award; Marion Polk Food Share reports hundreds of thousands of pounds distributed

Special Projects Director Renata Wakeley reported to the council that the city drew down CARES Act CDBG Impact Assistance funds originally awarded at $417,926 and later increased to $470,412 to help income-qualifying households during the pandemic. "The city was originally awarded $417,926... they increased our CDBG award to $470,412," Wakeley said, noting the grant required partnership with AWARE Food Bank (managed by Marion Polk Food Share) for local food purchases.
Ian Dixon McDonald, identified by staff as Vice President of Programs for Marion Polk Food Share, thanked the city and said the dollars stretched to hundreds of thousands of pounds of food. "Marion Polk Food Share estimates 354,000 pounds of food, and over 295,000 meals were served or purchased with these additional dollars," he said; McDonald also stated those pounds equated to a larger meals estimate when averaged differently. Staff noted purchases averaged about $1.23 per pound and that the organization prioritized local vendors. The hearing was closed with acknowledgement that receipts were submitted and that the grant is expected to be closed out next month.
