Yachats council adopts 2026 goals focused on infrastructure, housing and fiscal sustainability

The City Council adopted a set of 2026 goals the council said will guide work planning, capital improvement priorities and budget allotments.
"Our city council goals are here on our agenda," the city manager (speaker 1) told the council, saying the group had reviewed 2025 goals on Jan. 12 and adjusted deliverables for 2026 across infrastructure, livability, housing supply, environmental stewardship, fiscal sustainability, public awareness and emergency preparedness. The manager said the deliverables become the staff work plan for the year.
Councilors discussed whether council members should act as liaisons to committees tied to specific goals and how that role would affect quorums and workload. The manager said liaison activity would not make a council member a voting committee member but would help maintain connections between committees and council goals.
A motion to approve the 2026 goals carried after a roll-call; the presiding officer noted the council had adopted its goals at the first meeting of the year, consistent with best practices. The council asked staff to translate goals into budget allotments and capital-improvement planning going forward.
