Woodburn announces summer meals, library closures and community events for July

Councilors used opening announcements to highlight a series of summer events and service changes for Woodburn residents.
A councilor reported that the Woodburn School District will run a summer meal program from June 22 through July 17 providing one meal per child per day at multiple sites; offerings include sit‑down meal service at the Whitburn Library and Washington Elementary and grab‑and‑go lunches at Legion Park and other locations. The council noted City Hall will be closed July 3 and the library and transit services will be closed July 4. A French Prairie Kiwanis Chuck Wagon breakfast will run July 4 at Legion Park (7 a.m.–10 a.m.; $10 for adults; children 12 and under free) and a July 4 event at Centennial Park will include food vendors, live music, family games and an evening fireworks show.
Mayor Lonergan noted the council will hold a community barbecue meeting on Tuesday, July 14 at 6:00 p.m. at the library to coincide with Music in the Park. Councilors also encouraged safe fireworks use and discussed a planned Good Neighbor fireworks‑safety information campaign leading up to the 250th anniversary celebrations.
