He said volunteers can handle smaller branches but that heavy pieces and any chainsaw work should be performed by insured personnel or town equipment because of safety and the risk of further damage to gravestones.
Rob moved and the board approved a motion directing Rob and Jeremy to visit the site, assess town capability to clear debris, and recommend whether the board should pursue an in‑house cleanup, organize volunteer work-days for lighter tasks, or issue an RFP to hire a contractor. The board emphasized the need for an assessment before repairs to the stone wall or an inventory of damaged gravestones are completed.
Next steps: Rob and Jeremy will report back with a boots‑on‑the‑ground assessment and a recommended scope (contracting vs. volunteer removal) so the board can decide whether to commit funds or to move forward before the close of the fiscal year.
