Supervisor Rick Gearhart presented the Cedar Run District Citizen of the Year award to Cindy Burbank at the board's Jan. 15 meeting, praising her decades of service and local advocacy.
Gearhart said he had chosen Burbank as the Cedar Run District's citizen of the year and highlighted her roughly 35-year career with the Department of Transportation and subsequent executive work with an engineering firm before retirement. "I decided late last year that the citizen of the year for Cedar Run District would be Cindy Burbank," Gearhart said, noting her persistence on issues ranging from overhead power-line placement to data center concerns.
Burbank accepted the plaque and thanked the board and community. "We've all been colleagues in trying to protect this county and preserve what makes it beautiful and special," she said, adding thanks to volunteers and county staff for their service.
The board also recognized the past chair with a plaque during the same portion of the meeting.
