Fauquier supervisors proclaim January as Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month; FASTA representatives brief board

The chair read a proclamation designating January 2026 as Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month and noting Jan. 11 as Human Trafficking Awareness Day in Fauquier County. The proclamation referenced local partners and community organizations involved with the FASTA anti-trafficking alliance.
Josephine Gilbert, introducing herself at the podium, said, "My name is Josephine Gilbert, and I'm privileged to be here, representing, this organization started by Amelia's counsel with the support of Rory and Dave Roya from the very beginning." Gilbert thanked volunteers and partners and turned remarks over to Dave Furia.
Dave Furia thanked the community and the sheriff's office, saying county law enforcement and local detectives have been active partners in the effort. During citizens time Gilbert also thanked county leaders for their fast response to a recent senior center closure and announced a vigil on Jan. 21 at 5 p.m. in the courthouse square; she reported a new temporary senior center location at 18 Court Street that hosted a large opening event.
The board acknowledged the proclamation and expressed support for community partnerships aimed at prevention and survivor support.
