The Fauquier County Board of Supervisors voted to approve a resolution amending the fiscal year 2026 school budget to appropriate $7.5 million from the general fund balance to the school division.
Miss Struben, presenting the resolution, said, "This resolution appropriates 7.5, million dollars to the school division operating fund from general fund balance, of which $5,700,000 will be transferred to the school division asset fund, and $1,790,000 will be transferred to the school division's health insurance fund." She also noted the inclusion of a $65,000 state school security grant and a $16,000 local match.
The board opened the public hearing on the item but heard no public comment and closed the hearing before taking action. A supervisor moved to approve the resolution; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The chair recorded Mister Wasser in opposition and declared the motion carried.
The amendment shifts $5.7 million into the school division's asset fund and $1.79 million into the division's health insurance fund, according to the presentation. The resolution also recognizes the $65,000 security grant from the Virginia Department of Education and a $16,000 local match from school operating funds.
The board did not provide additional implementation details in the meeting; staff indicated they were available to answer questions. The school budget amendment takes effect per the county's budget procedures and will be reflected in next accounting cycles.
