District attorney pilots Evidence.com to cut time and media costs in large cases

The district attorney's office told the court it is piloting Evidence.com to manage and distribute forensic video and other large electronic evidence. The DA's office said a recent large case incurred about $700 in USB and drive costs alone; Evidence.com would allow cloud upload and link sharing, reducing labor and material expense.
"...we had spent about $700 just buying drives for that one case, because it was so large," the DA's representative said, summarizing a recent example. The sheriff's office and constables would also be able to upload evidence and benefit from centralized storage and redaction tools once the system is operational. The court agreed to include evidence.com (roughly $19,798 on the working list) and requested a final compatibility and cost review before approving any purchase.
Auditors noted SB22 restrictions mean some DA funds cannot be used for equipment; the court asked administrators to clarify appropriate fund sources and potential savings estimates before formal approval.
