Fire Chief Drew Engemann presented a proposed amendment to Title 4, Chapter 7, Subsection 2 to include public parks in the City's fireworks-restricted areas and to adjust boundary lines to conform with state-code requirements for major-road boundaries. Chief Engemann distributed a revised boundary map and said the amendment was prompted by recent fires in neighboring jurisdictions and a desire to simplify the map.
Chief Engemann told the Council enforcement would focus on education this season and the revised map will be posted on the City website, on social media, and distributed to fireworks vendors. City Attorney Christine Petersen noted state-code requirements that boundaries run along major roads, which informed the map adjustments.
Council approved Ordinance 2025-016 unanimously; the City will notify vendors and the public about updated restricted areas and the educational enforcement approach for the coming season.
